As part of our Museum Residency, we worked with one of our partner groups to co-create a vibrant float for the Spalding Flower Parade, which that year celebrated the theme of musicals. Together, the group chose The Wizard of Oz as their inspiration — a perfect choice for its colour, imagination, and sense of adventure.
Over several weeks, we designed and made the float, which was pulled by a tractor, along with costumes and props that brought the story to life. Parents and members of the wider community joined in too, helping to build, decorate, and dress the float. The project became a true community effort — full of laughter, creativity, and pride — and a wonderful celebration of what can be achieved when people make something together.
Following its success, we’re delighted to be returning to the Spalding Flower Parade next year, continuing our collaboration and building on everything we learned from this fantastic project.
